Bottling Process
Utilizing cork's compressibility, the bottling machine compacts the stopper for insertion into the bottle neck.
- Proper compression occurs when the stopper is 2mm smaller than the neck's smallest diameter, avoiding over-compression beyond 33% of the stopper's diameter. For example, a 24 mm diameter stopper should not be compressed to less than 15.5 mm for a neck of 18.5 mm diameter.
- Compression should never exceed 33% of the stopper's diameter to maintain its elasticity and ensure effective sealing of the wine in the bottle.
- Post-corking, the stopper regains its volume within 5 to 10 minutes, adapting to the neck's irregularities. Uniform force is applied to the glass surface after about an hour. Therefore, it's advisable not to place the bottle horizontally immediately after corking.
